My mission as product designer and mediator is to create suitable product ideas for the immense accumulations of material leftovers. I “match” existing material rejects, whether beautiful or bizarre, with adequate application ideas. The form of the new product will follow the source materials.

In workshops, I offer participants the opportunity to gain insight into design processes and to realise their own products from basic designs. My credo is to keep the cuts and constructions as simple as possible. This makes it easy to understand the production process and make a solid and useful product oneself in just a few steps. Besides, the reduction leaves a lot of freedom for the participants to adapt personal design for their product.

Beyond making products, the workshops share and collect information about material knowledge and cycles, thus increasing everyone's knowledge about our environment.

I take into account the real needs of the participants and let them flow into the following product developments.

In addition to the workshop offer, small series of finished products and unique items are created. If you are interested in buying products, please contact me directly.

Education through Design
sustainable + playful + undogmatic + experimental + communicative

"I am convinced that through design we can have a special influence on our future and its societies. My work is dedicated to a more conscious perception and re- alienation of people to their dynamic, fragile habitat, and thus to the realisation of an integrity."

Form Follows Material was initiated by the designer and mediator Katharina Karras. To find out more about Katharina, please visit karrakas.com.
